As an Art Teacher, my art classroom fosters creative problem-solving—an essential skill in today’s world—and students develop this through exploration, persistence, and self-directed learning. My curriculum emphasizes technical skill-building while encouraging students to pursue their own interests across a range of mediums in a choice- based environment.
Rooted in the Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) philosophy, my classroom operates as a student-centered studio where “the child is the artist.” Students gradually gain access to various studios—painting, drawing, collage, digital art, ceramics, fiber art, and recycled art—learning to work independently while engaging with relevant artists and concepts. TAB is flexible, guided by National Visual Arts Standards and the Studio Habits of Mind, helping students think critically and make informed artistic choices.
I strive to create a safe, inclusive, and adaptive environment where all learners can thrive. Art becomes a tool for identity exploration and self-expression, and students leave my classroom with the ability to engage, persist, solve problems creatively, work together with others, and take ownership of their artistic growth.
